Khandu dedicates re-rated Kitpi Mini Hydel Project to Tawang

ITANAGAR, Apr 9: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Thursday dedicated the re-rated Kitpi Mini Hydel Project (Phase–I) to the people of Tawang, in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, MLAs Tsering Lhamu and Namgay Tsering, along with other dignitaries.

Located at Kitpi village on the Nametrong River, the hydropower project generates electricity using the natural flow of water. Originally commissioned in 1977, the project has now been upgraded from 3×500 KW to 2×750 KW, significantly enhancing its efficiency and generation capacity, producing more power through better optimization of resources.

The upgradation, undertaken at a sanctioned cost of Rs 1526.78 lakh, is expected to benefit around 1,250 households, covering a population of nearly 4,700 people in the region.

Speaking on the occasion, Khandu said the re-rating would ensure improved and stable electricity supply while promoting the use of clean and renewable energy, thereby reducing dependence on conventional power sources.

Echoing similar sentiments, Deputy CM Mein said the upgraded project would substantially improve power availability in Tawang and contribute to strengthening local infrastructure and sustainable development.

The initiative marks a significant step towards boosting eco-friendly energy solutions and supporting the region’s growing power needs.
