Guv flags key development challenges, calls for coordinated action at DCs’ meet

ITANAGAR, Apr 10: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik outlined key developmental challenges and emphasised a forward-looking roadmap while attending the Deputy Commissioners’ Conference at Tawang on Friday.

The conference was attended by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Cabinet members, senior officials, and Deputy Commissioners.

In his address, the Governor said the conference serves as a platform to review progress, assess challenges, and promote collective problem-solving for better governance and service delivery.

He highlighted major issues confronting the state, including land management, gaps in the quality and reach of education, infrastructure constraints, urbanisation, waste management, health concerns, illegal migration, and corruption, stressing the need for coordinated and sustained efforts to address them.

Advocating a modern approach to governance, he called for the use of technology, data-driven planning, and innovative solutions tailored to the state’s unique conditions. He also emphasised community participation and local ownership in development initiatives.

The Governor underscored the importance of strengthening disaster preparedness and inter-departmental coordination to ensure resilience and sustainable growth.

Referring to the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047 and Viksit Arunachal, he said planning and implementation must align with these long-term goals. He noted that the unprecedented Central support to the Northeast reflects the strategic importance of the region and the high expectations placed on Arunachal Pradesh.

"This exceptional support is driven by Arunachal Pradesh’s strategic importance along the northern borders, particularly in relation to China, its role as a key pivot in India’s Act East Policy, and the need to overcome decades of historical isolation and underdevelopment," he said.

He also highlighted the unity, resilience, and patriotic spirit of the people as key drivers of the state’s continued progress.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein attended the inaugural and second day proceedings of the Deputy Commissioners’ Conference 2026 held in Tawang, under the theme Sashakt Arunachal, alongside Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Lok Sabha MP Tapir Gao, Cabinet Ministers Nyato Dukam and Kento Jini, and Chief Secretary Manish Kumar Gupta.
