KVK D/Valley distributes improved seeds to boost farm productivity in Anini region

ANINI, Apr 10: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Dibang Valley, led by Senior Scientist & Head Tsedar Wangmu, conducted a seed distribution programme across Aliney, Gipulin and Angrim Valley villages in collaboration with the ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Bengaluru.

The initiative, undertaken under the NEH programme, aims to promote improved agricultural practices and enhance crop productivity through research-based interventions, focusing on sustainable development, food security, and improved livelihoods for rural and tribal communities in the Northeast.

During the programme, high-quality seed kits were distributed to farmers, including improved varieties such as okra (Arka Nikita), chilli (Arka Khyati), French bean (Arka Komal) and bottle gourd (Arka Shreyas). These varieties have been selected for their suitability to local agro-climatic conditions and their potential for higher yields. Around 200 vegetable-growing farmers in Dibang Valley are expected to benefit.

The programme is being implemented on a research basis to assess the adaptability, performance and productivity of these crops in the region. Farmers have been advised to follow recommended cultivation practices and provide feedback on crop performance.

Officials said that if the results of these demonstrations are encouraging, the seed varieties will be distributed on a larger scale in the coming season, contributing to sustainable agriculture and improved farmer livelihoods in the district.
