RONO HILLS, Apr 10: Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) felicitated its medal-winning karate players for their impressive performance at the North East Zone and All India Inter-University Karate Championships (M/W) 2025–26, held at Dibrugarh University from April 1 to 9 under the aegis of the Association of Indian Universities.
At the North East Zone Championship, RGU secured the 2nd Runner-Up position among 76 participating universities. In individual events, Sonam Porang of Dera Natung Government College won Gold in the Men’s -55 kg Kumite category, while Gomi Dulom of Donyi Polo BEd College clinched Gold in the Women’s -68 kg Kumite category.
At the All India Inter-University Championship, RGU athletes added one Silver and two Bronze medals. Lokam Nime of Dera Natung Government College won Silver in the Women’s -55 kg Kumite category. Sonam Porang secured Bronze in the Men’s -55 kg Kumite, while Gomi Dulom bagged Bronze in the Women’s +68 kg Kumite category.
RGU Vice-Chancellor Prof S K Nayak congratulated the athletes, praising their dedication and discipline. He said such achievements reflect the university’s commitment to holistic development beyond academics.
The felicitation ceremony was attended by Registrar Dr N T Rikam, Finance Officer Prof Otem Padung, Controller of Examinations Dr Bijay Raji, Dean Prof Sambhu Prasad, Joint Registrar Dr David Pertin, and Assistant Director of Physical Education Dr A Yuvaraj, along with faculty members.
Coach Raja Yangfo was specially appreciated for his role in the team’s success.
The university reiterated its commitment to promoting sporting excellence, with the achievements bringing laurels to Arunachal Pradesh.
