AALO, Apr 12: A candlelight march was solemnly organised in Aalo on Sunday by the Kargu Kardi Welfare Society (KKWS), Aalo Unit, demanding justice for Late Yapi Potom, who was allegedly brutally murdered on April 7.
The peaceful march saw participation from a large number of citizens, that concluded with a formal meeting which began with a one-minute silence in memory of the deceased. The gathering reflected collective grief, solidarity and a strong demand for justice.
More than 45 organizations and associations actively participated in the march. Few among them were the Arunachal Teachers Association (West Siang Unit), Galo Welfare Society (GWS) West Siang Unit, GLBK CEC, All Ato Paktu Ao Welfare Society, Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society, Nari Awaz West Siang Unit, All Kombo Welfare and Development Society, Galo Artiste Forum, Lobom Welfare Society, among others, highlighting widespread concern of the community over the tragic incident.
Participants carried candles and placards, expressing anguish over the incident and demanding strict action against the accused, Daksen Riram. The march proceeded peacefully along designated routes before culminating at a common venue for a public address and adoption of resolutions.
During the concluding session, the gathering unanimously resolved to submit a memorandum to the appropriate authorities with key demands, including capital punishment for the accused, establishment of a fast-track court to ensure speedy justice, and provision of counselling support and educational facilities for the two orphaned children of the deceased, who was a junior teacher at a State-run school in Chimpu, Itanagar.
The programme concluded with the burning of an effigy of the accused as a mark of public outrage against the heinous crime.
The candlelight march served as a powerful expression of public sentiment, urging authorities to act promptly and decisively to ensure justice is delivered.
