Guv extends Sangken greetings

Itanagar, Apr 13: Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik extended warm greetings and best wishes to the people of the State on the auspicious occasion of Sangken. He expressed hope that the sacred festival would inspire people to walk the path of compassion, peace and righteousness as shown by Gautama Buddha.

The Governor said Sangken is celebrated with deep devotion and vibrant traditions, where images of Lord Buddha are ceremonially taken out of shrines, ritually bathed and placed in Kyongfra amidst the rhythmic sounds of drums and cymbals. Devotees gather in temples to offer prayers, sweets and food, and share goodwill by sprinkling water on one another, symbolising purification, renewal and the washing away of negativity.

Water is also offered to sacred objects such as the Bodhi tree and poured on the hands of Bhikkhus to seek blessings for peace, good health and harmony. Highlighting the spirit of the festival, he said Sangken promotes forgiveness, unity and togetherness, as people set aside past grievances and celebrate collectively.

“On this joyous occasion, I join my Tai Khamti and Singpho brethren in offering prayers for universal peace, happiness and harmony,” the Governor said.

Ambedkar Jayanti greetings: In a separate message, the Governor extended greetings to the people on the eve of Ambedkar Jayanti, commemorating the birth anniversary of Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution.

He said the day serves as a reminder of Babasaheb’s enduring vision of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity—values that form the foundation of the nation. The occasion provides an opportunity to renew commitment towards preserving and upholding the Constitution and the rule of law, while promoting harmony, mutual respect and unity in society.

The Governor urged citizens to imbibe Dr Ambedkar’s ideals in daily life and work collectively towards building a strong, progressive and AatmaNirbhar Bharat.
