APCC condemns murder of Arunachali youth, demands justice

ITANAGAR, Apr 16: The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) strongly condemned the brutal murder of Arunachali youth, Late Frelum Tarainyu, terming the incident a “national shame” and a serious violation of human rights.

APCC president Bosiram Siram expressed deep shock and anguish over the killing of the 30-year-old Mishmi youth from Koraliang village in Lohit district. He extended condolences to the bereaved family.

According to reports, the deceased had travelled to Bengaluru about six months ago in search of employment, accompanied by acquaintances. Allegations have surfaced that he was lured with job promises and subjected to exploitation, including non-payment of wages for two months.

The APCC highlighted disturbing details leading up to the incident, stating that the victim had expressed fear for his life and hinted at a possible conspiracy. His mortal remains were later found under suspicious circumstances at a railway station in Andhra Pradesh.

A Zero FIR has been registered at Tezu Police Station, and the case has been transferred to authorities in Andhra Pradesh for further investigation.

Calling the incident a gross violation of constitutional rights, including the Right to Life, Equality, and Freedom of Movement, Siram said the case reflects the continued vulnerability of Arunachali youths working outside the State.

The APCC placed several demands before the government, including a high-level and time-bound investigation, identification and arrest of all culprits, and immediate intervention with authorities in Andhra Pradesh. It also called for compensation and legal support for the victim’s family, as well as the establishment of a dedicated helpline and protection mechanism for Arunachali citizens working outside the State.

“The perpetrators must be brought to justice,” the party stated, adding that such incidents demand immediate and decisive action to prevent recurrence.

The party further urged a thorough probe into alleged labour exploitation and trafficking networks targeting youths from the Northeast, along with stronger policy measures to ensure their safety and security.

Siram also demanded the implementation of the recommendations of the Bezbarua Committee, constituted to address safety concerns of people from Northeast India across the country. He alleged that key recommendations, including legal safeguards against discrimination and effective grievance redressal mechanisms, remain inadequately implemented.
