Mass cherry blossom plantation drive organized in Ziro Valley

Ziro, Apr 16: The Ziro Tourism Organisation (ZTO), in collaboration with Siikhe and Seeh Multipurpose Co-operative Societies, on Wednesday organised a large-scale cherry blossom plantation drive in Ziro valley to mark the occasion of Bohag Bihu.

The initiative, aimed at promoting environmental conservation and community participation, saw the plantation of around 1,000 cherry blossom saplings at Siikhe and Seeh Lakes. The saplings were sponsored by Lempia Ude Homestay.

The plantation was carried out simultaneously at both locations with the objective of enhancing scenic beauty, promoting eco-tourism, and preserving the natural environment of the area. The initiative is also expected to contribute to biodiversity conservation and ecological balance in the region.

The programme was formally inaugurated with a plantation ceremony led by Dr Tage Kanno, Chief Advisor, and Zilla Parishad Member Rubu Tadii at Siikhe Lake, while a parallel event at Seeh Lake was conducted by District Tourism Officer Khoda Yakang Millo and ZTO Chairman Hibu Tatu.

A brief awareness programme was also organised alongside the drive, with active participation from local residents, stakeholders, and volunteers. Participants included members of the Better Ziro Initiative, Meha Pelo, Ziro Hapoli Tempo Association, as well as tourists from Assam. The initiative received support from various stakeholders, including ITBP Ziro and local homestays, contributing to its successful execution.

The plantation drive is expected to be one of the largest such initiatives undertaken in the district in a single day, further boosting Ziro valley’s appeal as an eco-tourism destination.
