Woman arrested with suspected heroin; NDPS case registered

Itanagar, Apr 18: Continuing its crackdown on drug trafficking, the Itanagar Police has arrested a woman during a raid at A-Sector here on Wednesday last and recovered suspected heroin weighing approximately 23.34 grams, along with syringes, from her possession.

The accused, identified as Yater Nyona, was apprehended based on credible intelligence inputs. A case has been registered at Itanagar Police Station vide Case No. 96/26 under Sections 21(b), 27A, and 29 of the NDPS Act.

Police said that investigation is currently underway, and efforts are being made to trace her possible linkages in the drug network.

The operation was carried out by a police team led by Officer-in-Charge of Itanagar Police Station, Inspector T Nega, along with SI S Ngupok, ASI M Kamgo, and other personnel, in the presence of independent witnesses and Executive Magistrate Tamo Dada. The entire operation was conducted under the supervision of Itanagar Capital Region Superintendent of Police Jummar Basar.

The SP, meanwhile, appealed to public to share credible information with the police and cautioned against taking the law into their own hands. He reiterated that strict action will be taken against those involved in drug trafficking and substance abuse as per the law.
