APSCW conducts awareness program on social issues at Anini

Anini, Apr 18: The Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW), in collaboration with the Dibang Valley Women’s Welfare Society (DVWWS), organised an awareness programme on key social issues affecting women and youth at Anini.

Addressing the gathering, APSCW Chairperson Yalem Taga Burang highlighted the growing concern of drug abuse and its adverse impact on society, along with associated legal implications. She stressed the need for collective efforts to tackle the menace and safeguard the future of the younger generation.

She also expressed concern over the increasing number of liquor outlets compared to essential services such as pharmacies, bookstores, and ration shops, calling for a more balanced approach to community development.

Vice Chairperson Tsering Dolma elaborated on women empowerment initiatives and government schemes, with emphasis on strengthening Self-Help Groups (SHGs) as drivers of socio-economic development. APSCW Member Kipa Kaya Rughu spoke on domestic violence, informing participants about legal remedies and support systems available to victims.

District coordinator-cum-gender specialist Dopi Tacho delivered a session on workplace sexual harassment, outlining legal safeguards and institutional mechanisms. CL Sahani spoke on cyber safety, stressing responsible digital behaviour, while Aneri Mena highlighted the importance of mental health awareness, particularly among youth.

Earlier, the programme began with a welcome address by organising chairman Akunge Miuli, followed by felicitation of dignitaries. It concluded with an interactive session encouraging active participation and dialogue, and a vote of thanks by CDPO Hachiya Meto.

The event witnessed active participation from officers, students, and members of the public. Among others present were Member Secretary Yakar Dawe, Member Kotu Bui, SDO Lijum Ete, and heads of departments and other officials. (DIPRO)
