Itanagar, Apr 19: A ten-day community outreach campaign covering nine villages in Arunachal Pradesh’s Upper Siang district concluded successfully, focusing on health and hygiene, agricultural advancement, and awareness on the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP).
Held from March 28 to April 7, the initiative was organised in collaboration with AARRO Welfare Society and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Geku, aiming to strengthen grassroots development and community engagement in Upper Siang district.
Five agriculture and horticulture camps were conducted under the guidance of Pravin Pati Tripathi, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Protection), who provided scientific inputs on improving citrus productivity and promoting sustainable farming practices.
Sessions held across Sitang, Parong, Begging, Riew, and Sumsing villages covered topics such as orange cultivation, orchard management, crop protection, and beekeeping as an additional source of income. The programmes witnessed active participation from local leaders and residents, with strong community turnout in all locations.
Parallelly, four health and hygiene camps were organised in Janbo, Pugging, Palling, and Bomdo villages under the banner of the AARRO Welfare Society. Medical professionals and officials conducted awareness sessions on preventive healthcare and sanitation, drawing significant participation from villagers. In several villages, attendance reached up to 90 percent of the local population.
In addition to agriculture and health initiatives, all camps served as platforms to disseminate information on the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project. FAQ booklets were distributed among participants, followed by interactive sessions where residents engaged directly with experts and project representatives, raising queries and sharing feedback.
The campaign successfully bridged knowledge gaps while fostering transparency and trust between communities and stakeholders. It also laid a strong foundation for continued collaboration towards holistic development in Upper Siang district, sources said.
