Itanagar, Apr 20: In an innovative step towards environmental awareness and youth engagement, an interactive school exhibition on the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP) was successfully organized at Government Upper Primary School, Rengo in Boleng on Monday. The outreach programme, themed “Siang Upper Multipurpose Project: Securing the Flow, Powering the Nation,” witnessed the enthusiastic participation of around 150 students.
Designed to simplify complex aspects of river management and hydropower development, the educational drive featured a comprehensive 12-zone standee walkthrough illustrating the journey of the Siang River. Instead of delivering conventional lectures, the outreach team adopted an interactive approach, guiding students through each zone and explaining key concepts such as flood control, clean energy generation and sustainable development in an engaging and easy-to-understand manner.
A major highlight of the programme was the distribution of specially designed anime-style FAQ comics inspired by Chhota Bheem. The comics presented technical aspects of the project and river conservation through relatable storytelling, capturing the imagination of young learners and enhancing their understanding.
Speaking on the occasion, a project representative emphasized the importance of communicating with youth in creative ways. He noted that combining visual exhibits with familiar storytelling formats helps foster better awareness about sustainable hydropower and encourages students to take an active interest in the future of their region.
The initiative received strong support from the school administration, with faculty members encouraging students to actively participate, ask questions, and engage with the exhibits. Their involvement helped create an atmosphere of curiosity and learning, making the programme both informative and impactful.
The exhibition stands as a unique example of grassroots outreach aimed at bridging knowledge gaps while promoting informed understanding of developmental initiatives among the younger generation.
