Mission Krishi Veer launched at Tezu to boost farmer–army linkages

TEZU, Apr 21: Mission Krishi Veer was launched on Sunday at the 274 ASC Supply Depot of the Indian Army in Tezu, marking a significant step towards strengthening linkages between local farmers and institutional buyers, particularly the armed forces.

Lohit Deputy Commissioner Kesang Ngurup Damo, in his address, said the initiative gives real meaning to the slogan “Jai Jawan Jai Kisan,” describing it as a win-win situation for both farmers and the Indian Army. He noted that the Mission would ensure better income opportunities for farmers while supplying quality, nutritious produce to soldiers. He encouraged farmers to adopt organic cultivation practices for long-term economic and health benefits.

The DC also appreciated the efforts of the Arunachal State Rural Livelihoods Mission and advised Self Help Groups (SHGs) to adopt a sustainable approach to agriculture. He urged Jang LAMPS to maintain close coordination with farmers to meet evolving market demands.

The programme began with opening remarks by Lt Col Ashish Kumar Singh, followed by a welcome address by N Loya, DAO-cum-Member Secretary, APMC Lohit. CEO of the Arunachal Pradesh Agricultural Marketing Board, Okit Palling, presented the operational framework of the mission. He highlighted that the initiative aims to facilitate direct marketing of farm produce to the Army, ensure payments within 48 hours through APAMB, and reduce rural-to-urban migration by creating local economic opportunities.

Commanding Officer of 502 ASC Battalion, Col Anil Kumar Loohach, said the mission would strengthen the local economy by providing assured market access and deepen ties between the Army and local communities.

ZPM Tezu, Baplalum Chiba, termed the initiative a major opportunity for self-employment and entrepreneurship in agriculture, urging farmers and SHGs to focus on quality production.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Maj Gen R S Chandel, Brig Kaustub Kekre, Sunpura ZPM Gulapso Bellai, Dr Naku Taloh (DAH & VO), Takar Hakom (BMMU ArSRLM), Songelum Mam (MD LOFPCL Wakro), and other stakeholders.

A symbolic handover of agricultural produce between the Army and SHG representatives marked the launch, signifying the operational beginning of Mission Krishi Veer.
