Arunachal partners with Wadhwani AI to integrate AI into healthcare

Itanagar, Apr 22: The National Health Mission (NHM), Arunachal Pradesh has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Wadhwani AI to integrate artificial intelligence (AI)-driven solutions into the state’s public health programs.

The partnership aims to strengthen healthcare delivery by deploying AI-powered tools across key priority areas, including tuberculosis care, telemedicine, maternal and child health, and eye care. Wadhwani AI will act as the technical partner, supporting the rollout of solutions aligned with the state governmen’s public healthcare priorities.

Under the initiative, several AI-based applications will be introduced. In tuberculosis care, tools such as Cough Against TB (CATB) will enable early screening through cough analysis, while Vulnerability Mapping for Tuberculosis (VMTB) will help identify high-risk locations using geospatial AI analytics. Further strengthening TB care, Prediction of Adverse TB Outcomes (PATO) will assist in identifying patients at higher risk, allowing timely interventions.

In telemedicine, a Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) will aid doctors with AI-assisted diagnosis, while “Health Vaani”, a voice- and text-based knowledge assistant, will provide frontline workers with quick access to approved health guidelines.

To address diabetes-related vision complications, “MadhuNetrAI” will support early detection of diabetic retinopathy, and in maternal and newborn healthcare, “ShishuMaapan”, an AI-powered newborn anthropometry tool, will help monitor newborn growth using smartphone-based tools.

Mission (NHM) Director Marge Sora said the initiative reflects the state’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery, particularly in geographically challenging regions. He emphasised that integrating AI tools would support frontline workers and enhance service efficiency and outcomes.

Chief Program Officer of Wadhwani AI, Dr Neeraj Agrawal, expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating that the partnership would help strengthen the continuum of care—from early detection to targeted interventions—while improving overall health system capacity.

The collaboration marks a significant step towards leveraging emerging technologies to enhance public health services and ensure better healthcare access across Arunachal Pradesh.
