Itanagar/ZIRO, Apr 22: The people of Tajang village in Ziro Valley solemnly observed the first death anniversary of Corporal Tage Hailyang on Wednesday, paying heartfelt tributes to the fallen air warrior who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
Corporal Hailyang had laid down his life on April 22, 2025, during a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. He was killed alongside 25 others while rescuing civilians.
On the occasion, Chief Minister Pema Khandu paid homage to the victims of the attack and the fallen air warrior. In a message, Khandu said that the nation remembers the innocent lives lost, whose stories remain etched in collective memory as a reminder of the cost of peace.
The Chief Minister paid special tribute to Corporal Hailyang, describing him as a courageous son of Arunachal Pradesh whose bravery and supreme sacrifice embody the highest ideals of the nation. He also affirmed that such acts of terror would never weaken the country’s resolve or hinder its progress.
To honour the Corporal’s memory, a series of commemorative events were organised by the family and villagers.
A life-sized statue of the late Corporal was unveiled at a memorial site by his father, Tage Tade. The statue, depicting him in uniform, was adorned with traditional white scarves and flowers, while engraved plaques highlighted his life, service, and dedication to the nation.
Later, a remembrance programme was held at the Tage Dollo Jubilee Hall, where villagers, elders, and well-wishers gathered to pay homage. A two-minute silence was observed in memory of the 28-year-old, remembered for his humility and commitment.
Local MLA Hage Appa visited the bereaved family to express condolences and solidarity. Hage Tarung, representing the district administration, also paid tribute and acknowledged the Corporal’s sacrifice on behalf of the government.
Speaking on the occasion, the Corporal’s father said his son’s legacy continues to inspire the younger generation and reaffirmed that his sacrifice would never be forgotten.
The programme concluded with a community gathering, reflecting unity and collective remembrance.
