PASIGHAT, Apr 23: The 9th edition of the District level Hangpan Dada Memorial Trophy (HDMT) 2026 for Under-16 boys and girls on football and volleyball concluded successfully in East Siang district today.
In the final results, Mebo dominated the tournament by winning football (boys and girls) and volleyball (boys) titles. Bogong-I secured the volleyball (girls) title. The runners-up were Bogong-I in football (boys), Oyan in football (girls), Mebo in volleyball (girls), and Bilat in volleyball (boys).
The tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from across the district, highlighting the growing sports culture and talent among the youth of East Siang.
Organized by the Department of Sports in collaboration with the District Administration, GoAP, the tournament aims to honour Ashok Chakra awardee Havildar Hangpan Dada and promote grassroots sports talent, especially from rural areas. Since its launch in 2017, the annual event has been providing a platform for young athletes to compete at constituency, district, and state levels.
The closing ceremony was attended by Tagom Padung, Chief Councillor Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC), and Ainam Saroh Taloh, ZPM Bogong-II, who encouraged the participants to pursue sports with dedication and discipline. (DIPRO)
