Itanagar, Apr 26: The Capital Police has acted swiftly in a case involving alleged sexual assault of minor girls, arresting three accused persons following registration of an FIR at the Women Police Station, Itanagar.
According to police, the matter was initially reported at Naharlagun Police Station. As it involved crimes against women and children, the complainant was guided to report at the Women Police Station, Itanagar, where a formal case was registered.
The case came to light after a written complaint by the father of one of the victims, stating that his minor daughter and her friends had gone missing from their rented accommodation in D-Sector, Naharlagun, during the early hours. Preliminary enquiry revealed that the girls were allegedly taken to a hotel in Naharlagun by three individuals, where the alleged incident took place.
Police registered Ita WPS Case No. 35/2026 under Section 96 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) read with Sections 6(1)/17/21(1) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and entrusted the investigation to Sub-Inspector Bamang Yakum.
Acting promptly, police identified and arrested all three accused – Mofidul Islam, Inzamamul Haque, and Md Azaharul Islam – all aged 21, hailing from Assam and currently residing in different areas of Naharlagun and Lekhi.
Police said, statements of the victims have been recorded in accordance with legal provisions, and medical examinations are being conducted at TRIHMS, Naharlagun.
Capital Police stated that the investigation is being carried out with utmost sensitivity, ensuring confidentiality and protection of the dignity and identity of the victims. Further investigation is in progress.
Appealing to parents and guardians, the police urged vigilance over children’s online activities and social media interactions, reiterating that the safety and protection of children remain a top priority.
