Lower Siang Police crackdown on drugs, ILP violations at Likabali

Itanagar, Apr 30: Lower Siang Police has intensified enforcement at the Likabali check gate, leading to multiple drug-related cases and action against Inner Line Permit (ILP) violators during April.

Under the supervision of newly posted police officers, including SP and DySP in the district, a series of targeted operations resulted in the registration of four cases under the NDPS Act.

In the latest incident on April 29, police intercepted one Semmar Basar of Nyigam village in Leparada district at the check gate. A search conducted as per legal procedure, in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and independent witnesses, led to the recovery of suspected heroin and cannabis.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and investigation is underway. Police said that in the past one month, five persons have been arrested in drug-related cases, with seizures of 12.64 grams of suspected heroin and 106 grams of cannabis.

Meanwhile, intensified ILP checking has also led to the detection of 188 violators. A total of 15 non-FIR cases have been registered under the BEFR Act at Likabali and Nari police stations, with violators externed as per the Executive Magistrate’s orders.

Lower Siang Police reiterated its commitment to curbing drug trafficking and ensuring strict enforcement of entry regulations in the district.
