NIRJULI, May 2: The All Arunachal Pradesh Labour Union (AAPLU) celebrated International Labour Day with great enthusiasm at Nyikum Niya Hall, highlighting the importance of workers’ rights and welfare.
The programme was graced by Chairman of the Arunachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, Rolen Dagam, as the chief guest, while Kra Daadi ZPC Tagru Kasha attended as the guest of honour. Among other notable attendees were ZPM Orik Tali, AAPLU president Dana Tadu, organising chairman Tachu Dana Taruj, organising secretary Dugge Apang, and Jitu Rigia.
The celebration focused on reinforcing the dignity of labour and the need for continuous efforts toward the welfare and empowerment of the labour community.
Addressing the gathering, Dagam emphasized the need for unity among labour unions, noting that a lack of coordination weakens their collective strength. He urged all unions to work together for the greater good of workers. Highlighting the initiatives of the labour board, he stated that several benefits are provided to registered workers, including essential items such as raincoats and umbrellas during the rainy season.
He further appealed to labour unions to actively promote worker registration so that more labourers can avail themselves of these welfare benefits. Dagam also reminded union leaders of their responsibility to serve the interests of the labour community with sincerity and integrity, and to uphold the dignity of labour at all times.
The AAPLU president submitted a memorandum to the Board Chairman, placing several key demands. These included the urgent posting of Registering Officers at Nirjuli in Papum Pare district, Tali ADC headquarters in Kra Daadi, and Tuting ADC headquarters in Upper Siang district. The memorandum also called for ensuring the effective functioning and proper regulation of all registering offices under the Board to facilitate timely delivery of services and benefits to workers.
The event concluded with a strong message of unity, coordination, and commitment toward strengthening labour welfare mechanisms across the state.
