Indian Army honours porters on Labour Day

ITANAGAR, May 2: The Indian Army marked International Labour Day at forward locations in Mechuka Valley, Arunachal Pradesh, honouring the dedication, resilience and contribution of porters who continue to play a key role in sustaining operations in challenging high-altitude areas.

The event was organised by the Spearhead Division of Spear Corps, where more than 50 porters participated in an interaction and tea gathering. The programme served as a platform to acknowledge their vital role in transporting essential supplies and logistics to remote forward posts under challenging terrain and weather conditions.

Officials highlighted that porters form a crucial link in sustaining operations in frontier regions, often working in difficult environments with resilience and commitment.

The gathering also provided an opportunity for informal interaction between Army personnel and porters, helping strengthen mutual trust and understanding. The initiative reinforced the enduring bond between the armed forces and local communities residing in border areas.

Such outreach programmes under the spirit of Operation Sadbhavana, continue to promote goodwill, cooperation, and civil-military camaraderie at the grassroots level.

The programme concluded with the Army expressing gratitude to the porters, acknowledging their indispensable support in maintaining operational efficiency in the frontier region.
