4 more Upper Siang villages back SUMP PFR survey, sign MoU

Itanagar, May 7: In yet another development for the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP), residents of four villages of Arunachal Pradesh's Upper Siang district — Ningging, Singging, Angging and Rising — signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in support of the Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) survey activities during a programme held at the Community Hall in Tuting on Thursday.

A total of 39 families from Ningging village, 25 families from Singging, 18 families from Angging and 45 families from Rising village extended their consent for the PFR activities in the presence of more than 300 people.

The MoU was signed between Upper Siang Deputy Commissioner Talo Jerang on behalf of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh and village representatives — Rikdu Yalik, Momok Lipir, Olom Sitek and Oni Tondrang.

The programme was attended by Tuting-Yingkiong MLA and Advisor to the Chief Minister, Alo Libang, Chief Engineer (HPD) K Perme, State Nodal Officer (SUMP) Atek Miyu, Under Secretary (HPD) Toli Karga, Heads of Departments, ZPMs, BJP leaders, Project Affected Families and members of the public.

Addressing the gathering, MLA Alo Libang highlighted various aspects of the proposed project and the ongoing PFR activities. He appreciated the overwhelming support shown by the people and urged them to continue maintaining a positive outlook towards development initiatives.

Deputy Commissioner Talo Jerang, while speaking on the occasion, clarified various misconceptions related to the survey works and appreciated the enthusiastic participation of the public.

“This shows that our people are gradually embracing a progressive mindset, which will go a long way in transforming the lives of the people,” he said.

The DC also stated that despite bad weather conditions and road blockades, the district administration travelled to Tuting to facilitate the signing process for the convenience of the villagers, reaffirming the administration’s commitment towards public welfare and development initiatives.
