First Governing Council meeting for Dirang Science Centre & Digital Planetarium held

Dirang, May 9: The first meeting of the Governing Council for the project “Setting up of Science Centre and Digital Planetarium (Category-II) at Dirang” was held on Saturday at the Dirang ADC’s office premises here under the chairmanship of West Kameng Deputy Commissioner Dr Dilip Kumar.

The meeting began with a welcome address by C D Mungyak, Director-cum-Member Secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science and Technology (APSCS&T). He briefed the members on the current status of the upcoming Science Centre and Digital Planetarium project at Dirang.

Sujay Majumdar, Director of NSC Guwahati under the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), highlighted the key features of the Scheme for Promotion of Culture of Science (SPoCS) under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. He urged the state authorities to ensure mandatory infrastructure support, including construction of a boundary wall, dedicated power supply, and water supply for the project site.

Addressing the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need for close coordination among all stakeholders to ensure that the proposed Science Centre at Dirang meets national standards. He described the project as one of the state’s prestigious initiatives that would significantly promote scientific culture and innovation in the Northeast region.

Among those present at the meeting were Choiki Dondup, ADC Dirang; Dr Debajit Mahanta, Joint Director, APSCS&T-DBT-BRSD, Kimin; Ribom Basar Gamlin, DDSE West Kameng; representatives from KV Dirang, officials from NCSM Guwahati, PWD Dirang, and technical experts associated with the project.

The Governing Council resolved to expedite all mandatory clearances and inter-departmental coordination for timely commencement of civil works. The Science Centre and Digital Planetarium is being developed under the Scheme for Promotion of Culture of Science with technical support from NCSM and is expected to emerge as a major hub for science education, innovation, and tourism in West Kameng district.
