ICR takes review of preparedness strategies, ahead of southwest monsoon

ITANAGAR, May 12: As part of evaluating preparedness steps for the ensuing southwest monsoon, a review meeting was convened today at the conference hall of the DC’s camp office, IG Park here, under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairperson District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Capital Region, Toko Babu.

Attended by officials from various departments and disaster management stakeholders, the meeting saw extensive discussion of preparedness strategies and precautionary measures to minimize the impact of monsoon-related disasters.

The DC, in his speech, stressed the importance of coordinated efforts among all departments and directed concerned authorities to maintain readiness with adequate manpower, machinery, and essential resources.

Further, the DC directed the Health Department to undertake wide public awareness campaigns on monsoon-related diseases, symptoms, and preventive measures.

The DC also directed all concerned to immediately report illegal earth-cutting activities and illegal constructions over drains.

The Capital DDMO informed the house that necessary orders assigning departmental roles and responsibilities had already been issued earlier. She further urged departments to submit updated contingency lists of men and machinery for incorporation into the District Disaster Management Plan (DDMP) and updation in the IDRN portal. She also apprised the members regarding the APDMIS portal.

The District Food & Civil Supplies Officer (DFCSO) stated that sufficient stock of essential commodities, including rice and LPG, is available and supply chains remain unaffected. Open grounds suitable for emergency operations and landings during exigencies have also been identified.

The District Medical Officer (DMO) informed that Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) have been divided into five groups to cover the entire ICR during emergencies and to provide medical assistance in relief camps. Adequate stocking and management of medicines have also been ensured.

The DFO and IMC authorities were directed to carry out pruning and felling of vulnerable trees posing risks to human life and property. Works departments were instructed to ensure regular clearance of clogged drains and nallahs and maintain men and machinery in readiness for prompt response during emergencies.

Further, the EE (WRD) was directed to continuously monitor water levels in vulnerable rivers, while the EE (Electrical) was instructed to ensure protection of power infrastructure and uninterrupted electricity supply to relief camps.

EE (PHED), Itanagar/Naharlagun, was directed to identify vulnerable areas prone to pipeline disruptions and ensure adequate alternative arrangements for water supply.

Administrative officers were instructed to supervise designated relief camps and ensure proper functioning of water and electricity facilities.

Moreover, IMC Mayor Likha Nari, who is also the Co-Chairperson DDMA, assured full cooperation and support in effectively tackling any disaster-related eventualities during the monsoon season. (DIPRO)
