Joint inspection against child & forced labour conducted in Ruksin

Pasighat, May 13: In a continued effort to curb child labour and forced labour practices, a joint inspection drive was carried out in vulnerable areas under Ruksin circle by the Labour Department, Police Department, and the District Administration of East Siang district led by SDO (HQ) Sanjay Taram.

The intensified inspection was conducted under provisions of the Child Labour (Prohibition & Regulation) Act, the Contract Labour Act, and the Inter-State Migrant Workmen (ISMW) Act, among other relevant laws.

The primary objective of the drive was to spread awareness on child rights and prevent unfair labour practices at various establishments and work sites.

During the inspection, SDO Sanjay Taram advised the public not to engage children in any form of labour activity and warned that repeated offenders would face strict legal action under the Child Labour Act. He also urged migrant workers to remain aware of their rights and report incidents of wage theft or bonded labour to the local police or labour helpline.

The inspection team also conducted awareness activities through distribution of pamphlets, display of banners, and direct interaction with workers. Information was shared on minimum wages, permissible working hours, workplace safety measures, and the illegality of child and forced labour.

Earlier, a similar inspection drive was conducted in Pasighat township on May 8. (DIPRO)
