ITANAGAR, May 13: The Arunachal Baptist Church Council (ABCC) has strongly condemned the “brutal” killing of Christian leaders between Kotin and Kolen villages in Manipur on Wednesday.
In an official statement, the ABCC expressed profound grief and anguish over the tragic deaths of Rev Yumthung Sitlhou, former general secretary of MBCNEI and former member of the executive council of CBCNEI (2001–2010), Pastor Paogoulen Sitlhou, and Pastor Kaigoulun Lhouvum.
The Council stated that the untimely deaths of the church leaders have brought immense sorrow not only to their families and churches but also to the entire Christian community across the Northeast and beyond.
Condemning the incident in the strongest possible terms, the ABCC described the attack as a senseless and inhuman act of violence against servants of God and peace-loving citizens. The Council further stated that such acts stand against the teachings and values of Jesus Christ, who calls upon humanity to love one another and pursue peace.
Quoting from the Holy Bible, the statement said: “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.” — Matthew 5:9
It further added: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” — Romans 12:21
In the meantime, the ABCC has called upon all communities and concerned authorities to uphold justice, protect human life, and work tirelessly for peace, reconciliation, and mutual understanding, while emphasizing that violence and hatred can never build a just and harmonious society.
The Council also extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, and all those mourning the irreparable loss. Prayers were offered for strength, comfort, and peace for every grieving heart.
Urging believers and churches to remain steadfast in prayer, the ABCC appealed to all Christians to continue upholding the values of love, forgiveness, unity, and peace even during difficult times. (Courtesy Litem Eshi Ori)
