KHONSA, May 17: The Department of Tirap, Changlang and Longding Affairs (DoTCL) on Sunday organised the first-ever TCL Achievers’ Award programme here at the Khonsa Circuit House premises to honour outstanding achievers from the TCL districts in the fields of sports, academics, and social work.
Speaking at the programme, DoTCL and Forest & Environment Minister Wangki Lowang congratulated the achievers and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence and bringing greater recognition to the region.
Expressing pride in the accomplishments of the youth, Lowang said that witnessing their success made him feel “like a parent” seeing his own children excel. He stressed the importance of parental guidance and nurturing young talents from an early age, adding that the youth possess immense potential which must be channelled towards meaningful achievements.
Highlighting new initiatives of the department, the minister announced free coaching facilities for aspirants preparing for APPSC, UPSC, and APSSB examinations, besides felicitation programmes for meritorious students and achievers from the TCL region. He also called for unity, cooperation, and collective progress to build a stronger future for the region.
The programme was graced by Advisor to DoTCL & Transport and MLA of Khonsa West, Chakat Aboh, as the guest of honour. Among others present were Secretary-cum-Director, DoTCL, Wayong Khimhun, Tirap Deputy Commissioner Techu Aran, DoTCL Chairman Tanpho Wangnaw, Deputy Director Wangton Lowang and Assistant Director Montu Mossang.
Earlier, welcoming the gathering, Wayong Khimhun highlighted the importance of recognising achievers from different fields to inspire and motivate the youth of TCL districts.
Cash awards and felicitations were presented to achievers from Tirap, Changlang, and Longding districts. The awardees expressed gratitude to DoTCL for providing a platform to recognise and celebrate their achievements and contributions.
From Tirap district, Kamdon Boi (Judo), Laatwang Kamhua (Wushu), Jyoti Panka (Academics), and Sontung Lowang Bangsia (Social Work) were felicitated.
The awardees from Changlang district included Mercy Naimung (Wushu), Maria Tangkhu (Academics), and social workers Chanlang Tangha and Ngungtim Changmi.
From Longding district, Gangphung Gangsa (Taekwondo), Nyeman Wangsu (Wushu), Chanphua Wangsu (Social Work), and Chemrang Marshall Jamikham (Academics) received awards.
MLA Chakat Aboh congratulated the achievers and encouraged them to continue working towards greater accomplishments. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by the DoTCL Deputy Director. He reiterated the department’s commitment towards supporting meritorious students and providing free coaching facilities for educated unemployed youth from the TCL region. (DIPRO)
