West Kameng Police arrests murder accused within hours

itanagar, May 17: The West Kameng Police has arrested a murder accused within hours of the crime with the assistance of the Assam Police following a coordinated operation in Assam’s Chariduar area.

According to police, a written FIR was received at Thrizino Police Station on May 16 at around 11 am from Relish Basumatary of Sonitpur district, Assam, alleging that on the night of May 15, accused Pilish Basumatary (22), son of Robin Basumatary of Chariduar, attacked one Birdao Basumatary with a dao (machete) during dinner at a camp near the jungle area of Khuppi village in West Kameng district.

Police said the victim, a resident of Karbi Anglong district in Assam, sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot.

Following the complaint, a case was registered at Thrizino Police Station under Sections 103 and 118(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and investigation was taken up by Sub Inspector Dogin Tamin under the supervision of Superintendent of Police, West Kameng, Dr DW Thongon.

After committing the crime, the accused reportedly fled from the scene on a motorcycle. Acting on intelligence inputs, police traced his location to the Chariduar area in Assam.

A police team led by the Officer-in-Charge of Bhalukpong Police Station, Inspector Tsering Dorjee, conducted raids in coordination with Assam Police and successfully apprehended the accused from Chariduar Railway Station at around 4 pm on Saturday. 

Police also recovered the weapon used in the crime from the possession of the accused. The motorcycle allegedly used for fleeing the crime scene was also recovered and seized.

Meanwhile, police teams visited the crime scene, conducted inquest proceedings, collected forensic evidence, and gathered other vital clues despite adverse weather conditions. Further investigation into the case is underway, the SP said.
