ITANAGAR, May 17: The Nyishi Elite Society (NES), led by its president Prof Tana Showren, conducted a social outreach programme at Dollungmukh in Kamle district with the focus on environmental conservation, cleanliness, tourism promotion, and local development issues.
During the programme, the NES stressed the importance of protecting flora and fauna and appealed to the public to avoid hunting and conserve wildlife to naturally promote tourism in the region.
The Society also raised concern over increasing plastic pollution and urged people not to dump plastic bottles and non-biodegradable waste into rivers, highlighting its harmful impact on aquatic life and the environment.
NES further called for awareness campaigns in the upper ridges of Raga and Daporijo to keep river systems clean and promote environmental sustainability.
Promoting the “Vocal for Local” initiative, the NES encouraged development of local handicrafts and indigenous products to strengthen self-reliance and boost the rural economy.
During the programme, Dollungmukh ZPM Tanga Bini submitted a memorandum to the NES team highlighting five key demands, including demarcation of boundaries between Papum Pare and Kamle districts, construction of a road connecting Dollungmukh to Kimin, finalisation of issues related to villages falling under the Air Force bombing zone, development of eco-tourism around the Subansiri Lower Project, and settlement of the Assam-Arunachal boundary dispute in Kamle district.
Responding to the issues, Prof Showren stated that both the Assam and Arunachal Pradesh governments are working towards resolving boundary disputes outside the court and assured that the NES would extend full support towards an amicable solution.
On pending road projects, he said several connectivity initiatives, including the East-West Corridor, are delayed due to environmental clearances, and called upon district committees to provide detailed status reports to expedite the process.
He further informed that joint inspections and meetings involving the administrations of Upper Subansiri, Lower Subansiri, and Papum Pare districts would be initiated to address inter-district connectivity bottlenecks and other developmental concerns.
