ITANAGAR, May 20: CSIR-North East Institute of Science & Technology (NEIST) Branch Itanagar, Naharlagun today organized a one day program to celebrate National Intellectual Property Festival 2026 on this year’s theme – ‘IP and Sports: Ready, Set, Innovate.’
About 45 participants, including entrepreneurs, students, and research scholars from different locations and institutes, attended the programme, which aimed to create awareness about ‘Intellectual Property (IP)’ among entrepreneurs, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and students, and to educate them on the protection of intellectual property for the benefit of the people of the State in particular and the nation in general.
Dr Chandan Tamuly, Scientist F and In Charge, CSIR-NEIST, Branch Itanagar, outlined the objectives of the program, highlighting the significance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).
Dr Topi Basar, Dean, Faculty of Law, Rajiv Gandhi University, addressed the gathering as the keynote speaker. Dr Basar emphasized the importance of IPR, Geographical Indication (GI) tags, trademarks, and related domains.
Nani Mamung, Circle Officer, Office of Assistant Commissioner, Naharlagun, attended the program as chief guest. She motivated the participants, and assured continued support from the State administration.
Dr Ravindra Rawal, Scientist E, delivered a presentation titled “Empowering Indigenous Wisdom through Innovation, IPR & Enterprise for Sustainable Growth.” He highlighted the importance of merging traditional knowledge with modern innovation for sustainable development and emphasized the role of IPR in protecting traditional knowledge, fostering creativity, and promoting entrepreneurship.
Later, an interactive session was conducted among the participants and resource persons. The program ended with a brief speech by Dr Prasenjit Manna, Scientist-E.
