ITANAGAR, May 25: Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Monday said he has communicated with the Assam Government regarding the arrest of anti-drug activist Gumin Mize and urged that the latter should not be harassed while in judicial custody.
Mize was arrested in connection with Bihpuria Police Station Case No. 72/2026 registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.
According to police, the incident took place on May 15 at Sessa Rajgarh under Bihpuria Police Station in Assam, where 12 to 15 individuals allegedly entered the residence of one Rupam Kakati in search of him and opened fire.
In the FIR, complainant Popi Kakati alleged that when her husband attempted to flee, he was chased, assaulted, handcuffed and fired upon. She further alleged that she was assaulted while trying to intervene and that the group broke open an almirah and took away Rs 20,000 in cash along with two mobile phones.
Responding to reporters in Itanagar, Khandu said, “Assam Police and the court are working as per law. We have no authority to interfere in the matter, but I have communicated with the Assam Government to ensure that he is not harassed in jail.”
The Chief Minister stated that the Arunachal Pradesh Government is closely monitoring developments in the case and remains in communication with the concerned authorities to ensure that due legal procedures are properly followed.
