ROING, May 27: Project Associate of the Union Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), Ch. Sanatan Singha, visited the RIWATCH Centre for Mother Languages (RCML) at Khinjili, Roing on Wednesday to review its ongoing initiatives aimed at preserving and promoting indigenous languages of Arunachal Pradesh.
During the visit, Singha inspected the project titled “Promotion of Literary Development of Mother Languages of Arunachal Pradesh,” being implemented by RIWATCH Centre for Mother Languages with support from the North Eastern Council (NEC) through the nodal agency — the Department of Indigenous Affairs, Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
He appreciated the RCML for its contributions towards documenting and promoting the state’s linguistic heritage and acknowledged its diverse activities, including multilingual publications and language promotion programmes conducted among native speakers, school students and teachers.
Singha assured that he would recommend continued support from the Ministry for such initiatives aimed at preserving, promoting and developing the region’s indigenous languages.
The MDoNER official also visited the RIWATCH Museum and praised its well-designed layout, maintenance and presentation of traditional artefacts representing the rich cultural heritage of indigenous communities of Arunachal Pradesh and the Northeast.
Executive Director of Research Institute of World’s Ancient Traditions Cultures and Heritage (RIWATCH), Vijay Swami, highlighted the importance of language preservation and documentation in safeguarding cultural identity and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to preserving the linguistic diversity of Arunachal Pradesh.
RCML Centre Head Dr Mechek Sampar Awan presented a comprehensive overview of the Centre’s activities since its inception, highlighting achievements in language documentation and the development of linguistic resources. Awan also outlined the Centre’s future plans and vision for strengthening language preservation initiatives.
