Bandh called by APIYO disrupts normal life in Capital Region

Itanagar, May 28: Normal life was disrupted across the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) on Thursday following a 24-hour bandh called by the Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Youth Organisation (APIYO) over the issue of alleged illegal mosques in the capital region.

Markets, shops, commercial establishments, banks, post offices and educational institutions remained closed, while public and private transport services largely stayed off the roads during the day. However, some small vehicles and two-wheelers were seen plying in some parts of the capital region.

Security arrangements remained in place across the capital region, and no untoward incidents were reported during the bandh.

DIGP (Itanagar Range) Tumme Amo visited Banderdewa, Nirjuli, Doimukh and other parts of the twin capital region to monitor the situation and stated that the bandh remained peaceful throughout the day.

Speaking on the issue, APIYO general secretary Tapor Mayong said the organisation had repeatedly submitted memorandums and placed several demands before the Government. He alleged that the authorities failed to fulfill the demands despite multiple representations.

According to the organisation, the bandh was called to draw the government’s attention towards the issue and seek immediate action.
