PASIGHAT, Jun 2: Anti-Malaria Month 2026 was formally launched at the Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC) conference hall here on Monday, with stakeholders stressing the need for collective action to eliminate malaria and raise public awareness on vector-borne diseases.
The month-long campaign, organised by the District Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (DVBDCP), East Siang, will be observed under the theme “Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can, Now We Must.” Various awareness and outreach activities will be conducted across the district during the campaign period (June 1-30).
Pasighat East MLA Tapi Darang attended the programme as the chief guest, while PMC Chief Councillor Tagom Padung was the guest of honour and Deputy Chief Councillor Kamin Lego the special guest.
Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries emphasized the importance of public participation, environmental sanitation, early diagnosis, timely treatment and community awareness in achieving the goal of malaria elimination. They urged citizens to support preventive measures and maintain cleanliness in their surroundings to reduce mosquito breeding.
Officials of the DVBDCP gave a detailed presentation on malaria prevention and control strategies, along with the current malaria situation in the district. The presentation highlighted the importance of sustained vigilance and active community involvement in combating the disease.
The programme was attended by District Medical Officer Dr Yagling Perme, Municipal Executive Officer J Pertin, Health Department officials, councillors, officers and staff of the PMC, healthcare workers, and students of Govt Upper Primary School, Gumin Nagar.
The enthusiastic participation of elected representatives, municipal officials, healthcare personnel and students reflected a shared commitment towards making East Siang a malaria-free district. (DIPRO)
