Itanagar, Jun 3: Namsai Police has intensified its crackdown on drug trafficking and substance abuse, resulting in the arrest of seven alleged drug peddlers and seizure of approximately 75.86 grams of suspected heroin during a series of intelligence-based operations conducted over the past one-and-a-half months, police said on Wednesday.
Namsai Superintendent of Police Sangey Thinley said that the operations were carried out by the district police’s Anti-Drug Squad (ADS) led by SDPO Namsai, DySP Kengo Dirchi, along with Inspectors A K Pandey, N K Khen, T Padung, and Sub Inspectors R Ado and R Kahik. The drives were coordinated by DySP (HQ) Matin Ratan under the overall supervision of SP Namsai.
The SP said seven cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act were registered during the period, leading to the arrest of seven accused persons and the recovery of suspected heroin from different locations in the district.
In a bid to strengthen preventive measures against the drug menace, Namsai Police has also initiated action under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act against habitual offenders. The move is aimed at preventing repeat offences and dismantling organized drug trafficking networks.
Appealing for public cooperation, the police urged citizens to share credible information related to drug trafficking and substance abuse activities, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept strictly confidential.
Reaffirming its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against drug-related crimes, Namsai Police stated that stringent legal action would continue against all individuals involved in the illicit drug trade.
