Three drug peddlers arrested, suspected heroin seized at Banderdewa

Itanagar, Jun 4: In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, Banderdewa Police has arrested three alleged drug peddlers and seized suspected heroin during a naka checking operation at the Banderdewa Check Gate.

Acting on credible intelligence regarding the transportation of narcotic substances from Assam into Arunachal Pradesh, a police team led by Officer-in-Charge of Banderdewa Police Station, Inspector Kipa Hamak, along with SI B Pegu, SI T Hinda, lady constable Rita Devi, and CRPF personnel, laid a trap and intercepted a vehicle, Maruti Alto K10 (Rgn No. AR-01V-3694).

During the search of the vehicle, police recovered 30 vials containing suspected heroin weighing 38.70 grams (including the weight of the vials). Following the seizure, BDW/PS Case No. 30/2026 was registered under Sections 21(b) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and three accused persons were arrested.

The arrestees have been identified as Khyoda Mama, a resident of Jully-Jollang, Itanagar; Khoda Tadi, a resident of F&G Sector, Itanagar; and Guriya Rai, a resident of Chimpu, Papum Pare district.

Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the contraband and uncover the network involved in the trafficking operation.

The successful operation was conducted under the overall supervision of Naharlagun SP Dr Nyelam Nega, as part of the ongoing drive against drug trafficking and related criminal activities in the Itanagar Capital Region.

The police has reiterated its commitment to intensifying anti-drug operations and taking stringent action against individuals involved in the illegal narcotics trade.
