Youth bodies seek joint panel to address illegal immigration in ICR

ITANAGAR, Jun 4: The All Capital Complex Youth Welfare Association, the All Naharlagun Youth Welfare Association and the 13 Itanagar Constituency Youth Association have proposed the formation of a joint coordination mechanism to address issues related to illegal immigration and unauthorised construction of religious structures in the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).

In a representation submitted to the ICR Deputy Commissioner, the three organisations suggested that the proposed mechanism comprise representatives from the youth bodies and function in close coordination with the district administration and other competent authorities.

Recognising the role of the Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Youth Organisation (APIYO) in matters concerning indigenous rights, the organisations urged the district administration to include APIYO as a member of the proposed committee.

The youth bodies said, the mechanism would assist the administration in identifying and reporting suspected cases of illegal immigration for verification by the competent authorities. It would also help bring to the administration's notice information regarding alleged unauthorised constructions, including religious structures, for examination under relevant laws and regulations. The proposed body could facilitate lawful information-sharing, public awareness and community participation on issues affecting indigenous rights and public order.

They further said the mechanism would strengthen coordination between civil society organisations and Govt agencies for the peaceful resolution of public concerns while promoting communal harmony, social stability and adherence to the rule of law.
