ITANAGAR, Jun 4: Government Spokesperson and Education Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona on Thursday termed the proposed 24-hour bandh called by the Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Youth Organisation (APIYO) and the Indigenous Youth Force of Arunachal as “not justified”, asserting that the issues raised by the organisations had already been addressed by the district administration.
Addressing reporters at the Civil Secretariat here, Sona said the administration had taken action against all 15 unauthorised mosques and masjids identified in the Itanagar Capital Region.
“Out of the 15 unauthorised mosques and masjids, 12 have already been sealed or closed by the district administration. The remaining three, which were reportedly operating on private land, were also shut down on June 3 following a notification issued by the district administration,” he said.
In view of the action already taken, the Govt spokesperson questioned the rationale behind the bandh call scheduled for June 5. “So to announce a 24-hour bandh over the issue is not justified,” he said.
Sona appealed to the APIYO leadership to withdraw the proposed bandh and advised its members to collect the relevant official documents from the office of the ICR Deputy Commissioner.
Sona maintained that a bandh would not serve as a solution to public issues and instead would adversely affect ordinary citizens.
“Bandh call is not a solution. It can only harass the common public and damage society,” he said.
