Itanagar, Jun 5: In a major anti-drug enforcement initiative, the authorities destroyed 2,911.821 kilograms of seized narcotic substances worth approximately Rs 14.55 crore at Balemu in West Kameng district on Thursday.
The destruction was carried out by the West Kameng Police in coordination with allied agencies, in compliance with the orders of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court, Bomdila.
State Home Minister Mama Natung said the disposal of the seized contraband reflects the state government’s firm resolve to combat drug abuse and trafficking in Arunachal Pradesh.
“Every quantity of narcotics removed from circulation is a step towards safeguarding our youth and strengthening the future of our communities,” Natung stated. He said the destruction of such a large quantity of drugs demonstrates the state’s unwavering commitment to protecting society from the harmful effects of narcotic substances.
The Home Minister commended the West Kameng Police and all agencies involved for their professionalism, dedication and sustained efforts in the fight against drug trafficking.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to a drug-free state, Natung said the administration remains steadfast in its mission to build a safer and healthier Arunachal Pradesh by intensifying efforts against the menace of narcotics.
