Guv calls for enhanced border vigilance during meeting with Assam Rifles DG

Itanagar, Jun 5: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik has emphasized the need for heightened vigilance and operational preparedness along the international border during a meeting with Director General of Assam Rifles, Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, in Shillong on Thursday.

The Governor, who was in the Meghalaya capital to attend the Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council, held detailed discussions with the Assam Rifles chief on issues related to border management, regional security, and the welfare of border communities in Arunachal Pradesh.

During the meeting, the Governor commended the Assam Rifles for its dedicated role in safeguarding the Indo-Myanmar border and maintaining peace and stability in the strategically important frontier areas of the state. He praised the force for its professionalism, commitment, and tireless efforts in securing the nation's borders under challenging terrain and climatic conditions.

Parnaik also appreciated the Assam Rifles for fostering trust and cooperation with local communities through various civic action programmes, humanitarian initiatives, and community outreach activities. He observed that such efforts have significantly contributed to the socio-economic development of remote border areas while strengthening the bond between security forces and local residents.

Highlighting the evolving security scenario along the international border, the Governor stressed that troops deployed in sensitive areas must remain alert and prepared to respond effectively to emerging challenges. He called for continuous vigilance and enhanced operational readiness to ensure the security and stability of the region.

Expressing concern over the pace of border fencing works, the Governor underscored the strategic importance of completing the project on time. He urged authorities to expedite the fencing process, stating that strong border infrastructure is crucial for effective border management, national security, and prevention of trans-border illegal activities.

The Director General assured the Governor of the Assam Rifles' continued commitment to working closely with the state government and local communities to strengthen border security while preserving the longstanding goodwill and bonhomie with the people of Arunachal Pradesh.
