Itanagar, Jun 5: Chief Postmaster General, North-East Circle, Brajesh Kumar, called on Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik at Shillong on Thursday and discussed a proposal to issue a series of commemorative postage stamps highlighting the rich cultural heritage, biodiversity and unique identity of Arunachal Pradesh.
During the meeting, the Chief Postmaster General briefed the Governor on the approval process and the proposed themes for the stamp series. The themes include the indigenous tribes and traditions of Arunachal Pradesh, heritage sites, rich flora and fauna, Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged indigenous products, and traditional handicrafts.
The proposed stamp series aims to celebrate and preserve the State’s diverse cultural and natural legacy while bringing greater national and international recognition to its unique traditions and achievements.
A passionate philatelist and stamp collector, Parnaik welcomed the initiative and described postage stamps as much more than instruments of postal communication. He said stamps serve as enduring symbols of history, culture and national pride, connecting generations and educating people across geographical boundaries.
The Governor observed that commemorative stamps dedicated to Arunachal Pradesh would help document the State’s unique story and secure its rightful place in India’s postal heritage. He added that such stamps would act as cultural ambassadors, introducing the State’s traditions, biodiversity, indigenous wisdom and achievements to audiences across the country and around the world.
He expressed confidence that the initiative would enhance awareness about Arunachal Pradesh’s distinctive identity and inspire greater appreciation for its heritage among future generations.
As a gesture of goodwill, the Chief Postmaster General presented the Governor with a postage stamp album and a book titled Journey of India through Philately. The Governor received the gifts with keen interest and appreciation.
Senior officials of the Department of Posts who attended the meeting included Director Postal Services KVLN Murty, Assistant Director (Technology/Vigilance) Chintamary Kharmawlong, and Assistant Director (Philately) Poreiton Thokchom.
