Itanagar, Jun 7: The Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh, in collaboration with the Arunachal Cycling Association, the Sports Authority of India (SAI), and My Bharat, observed World Bicycle Day with a renewed commitment to promoting fitness, healthy living, and sustainable mobility across the State.
Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Kento Jini, accompanied by MLAs Chau Zingnu Namchoom and Mutchu Mithi, flagged off a cycling rally and later joined participants in the ride. Addressing the gathering, Jini emphasized the importance of fostering a culture of fitness and wellness in the state.
He said World Bicycle Day serves as a reminder of the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles, promoting sustainable modes of transport, and fostering environmental consciousness.
“Cycling is not only a means of fitness and recreation but also a simple yet powerful step towards reducing our carbon footprint and building healthier communities,” Jini said.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from legislators, senior officials, cyclists and fitness enthusiasts. Among those present were MLAs Mutchu Mithi and Chau Zingnu Namchoom, Chief Secretary Manish Kumar Gupta, Commissioner Health & Family Welfare Pawan Kumar Sain, Special Secretary of Sports & Youth Affairs Akshat Kaushal, and other dignitaries.
MLA Namchoom described the event as inspiring and appreciated the collective efforts of participants from different walks of life in promoting the values of health, fitness, sustainable mobility and environmental responsibility.
The programme was held under the theme, “Pedal Towards a Healthier and Greener Future.”
Chief Minister also lauded the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, the Arunachal Cycling Association, SAI and My Bharat for successfully organising the event and spreading awareness about the benefits of cycling.
He noted that World Bicycle Day highlights the importance of active lifestyles and eco-friendly transportation while encouraging people to contribute towards a healthier society and a cleaner environment.
The programme concluded with a collective pledge to continue promoting sports, fitness and sustainable practices for a stronger, healthier and more vibrant Arunachal Pradesh.
