Mein commends Indian eves for winning SAFF title

ITANAGAR, Jun 7: The Indian eves have come in for praise for crowning glory in the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Women’s Championship 2026, as Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein applauded the Blue Tigresses for winning the elusive title.

India prevailed over title holder Bangladesh 3-1 in the final played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Margao in Goa on Saturday.

In his social media post, Mein said: “Heartiest congratulations to the Indian Women’s Football Team for lifting the SAFF Women’s Championship 2026 trophy. The team displayed exceptional skill, determination and teamwork throughout the tournament, making the nation proud.”

Illustrating on the impact, the Dy CM said: “This remarkable achievement is sure to inspire countless young girls and aspiring footballers across the country to pursue the sport with passion and confidence. Wishing the team continued success and many more milestones in the years ahead.”
