ITANAGAR, Jun 11: As part of the nationwide Khet Bachao Abhiyan (Save the Soil, Save Farming, Save Farmers), awareness programmes were conducted at Nichoba and Fenche villages in East Kameng district today, in which 66 farmers and other stakeholders participated.
The programme promoted sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture through awareness on soil health management, soil testing, and use of Soil Health Cards for balanced nutrient application.
Farmers were sensitized on the harmful effects of excessive chemical fertilizer and pesticide use and encouraged to adopt natural and organic practices such as green manuring, vermicomposting, and bio-fertilizers.
Participants were also informed about scientific farming methods, water conservation, improved sowing and seed treatment practices, identification of counterfeit agricultural inputs, and government support schemes including PM-KISAN, Kisan Credit Card (KCC), and crop insurance.
The programme reinforced the commitment towards soil conservation, sustainable agriculture, and long-term farmer prosperity.
Meanwhile, an awareness programme on Khet Bachao Abhiyan was organized by District Agriculture Office and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Balek of Lower Dibang Valley district at Rayang-1 village of the district.
Around thirty 60 farmers and farm women participated in the programme, which started with a welcome address by Gracy Linggi, Agriculture Development Officer Roing HQs, where she gave brief information about the programme.
Dr Deepanjali Deori, Senior Scientist and Head KVK Lower Dibang Valley, gave awareness about balanced use of fertilizer and suggested to follow natural farming. She also briefed about the importance and benefits of registration of farmers name in Kisan Sarathi Portal.
Toktel Boko, SMS (Plant Protection), KVK Lower Dibang Valley, also gave awareness about natural farming and preparation and use of beejamrit, jeevamrit in agriculture for better human and plant growth.
She also suggested the farmers about balanced use of fertilizer and to take proper guidance from technical experts before using them.
The programme concluded with a speech by Monika Panggam, SMS (Agronomy) KVK Lower Dibang Valley where she gave awareness about preservation of indigenous seeds, natural ethnic cultivation practices and the importance of vermicomposting. She also gave information about the importance of Protection of Plant Variety and Farmers Right Act.
