RUKSIN, Jun 12: In a significant boost to healthcare services in the region, cataract surgery services have resumed at Tasi Panggeng Community Health Centre (FRU), Ruksin, after a gap of 10 years, enhancing access to specialized eye care for the local population.

The revival of the service marks an important milestone in strengthening healthcare delivery at the grassroots level and reducing the need for patients to travel long distances for ophthalmic treatment.

The cataract surgeries were successfully conducted by Dr T Kaye, MS (Ophthalmology), Junior Specialist in Ophthalmology. On June 9, the medical team at CHC (FRU), Ruksin, performed five cataract surgeries and one pterygium surgery, restoring vision and bringing relief to patients suffering from avoidable visual impairment.

Health officials said the resumption of cataract surgery services would particularly benefit elderly residents and visually impaired individuals from Ruksin and adjoining areas, many of whom previously had limited access to surgical eye care facilities.

The initiative is expected to contribute significantly to reducing preventable blindness and improving overall eye health in the community.

The achievement reflects the commitment of the Health Department and the dedicated medical and support staff of Tasi Panggeng CHC (FRU), Ruksin, towards expanding specialized healthcare services and ensuring equitable access to quality treatment.

Speaking on the occasion, Medical Officer Dr K Jonnom said the successful restoration of cataract surgery services demonstrates the department’s ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and deliver essential medical services closer to the people. The initiative reaffirms the government’s commitment to improving the health and well-being of citizens through accessible, affordable and quality healthcare services, he added.

The revival of the ophthalmic service has been welcomed by local residents, who view it as a major step towards improving healthcare accessibility and quality in the region.
