ITANAGAR, Jun 14: As part of World Blood Donor Day observance, a mega voluntary blood donation (VBD) camp was organized by Heema Hospital in collaboration with Arunachal Life Saving Foundation (ALSF) and Blood Bank, RK Mission Hospital here today, in which a total of 55 units of blood were collected.
This year’s World Blood Donor Day was observed on the theme ‘One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.’
Speaking as chief guest on the occasion, Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) Mayor Likha Nari Tadar exhorted the people of the State to come forward to donate blood. Emphasizing the importance of blood donation, she said that blood cannot be manufactured in spite of all technological advancements and blood donation is the only way to save lives during emergencies.
Medical Superintendent Dr Kesang W Thongdok, in his speech, said that against an annual requirement of around 15,000 units of blood in our State, only about 13,000 units of blood are collected. This gap between supply and demand can only be fulfilled by more aggressive blood donation drives.
ALSF Chairman Ramesh Jeke gave an overview of blood donation drives and the efforts made by his organization in spreading awareness as well as in organizing blood donation camps in the State.
During the camp, a total of 55 units of blood were collected and transferred to RK Mission Hospital Blood Bank.
It requires a mention here that the Mayor herself donated blood on the occasion, thus leading by example.
The program was attended by CMD Heema Hospital Dr Byabang Rana, Prof KP Singh, HoD, MSW (RGU), and State BJYM president Tame Siyang Tarh, among others.
During the camp, Jawans from NDRF & CRPF, BJYM members, students from DNGC, individuals and staff of Heema Hospital and RK Mission Hospital participated.
