Enumeration drive under SIR begins in Arunachal

Itanagar, Jun 15: The Enumeration Phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls commenced in Arunachal Pradesh on Monday as part of a nationwide exercise initiated by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to ensure that all eligible citizens are included in the electoral rolls while ineligible entries are removed.

The Commission had ordered the Special Intensive Revision in 16 States and three Union Territories on May 14, 2026, under Article 324 of the Constitution and relevant provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1950.

According to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Arunachal Pradesh, all eligible electors whose Enumeration Forms are received by the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) on or before July 14, 2026, will be included in the Draft Electoral Rolls.

Electors who are unable to submit their Enumeration Forms within the stipulated period may apply through Form 6 along with the prescribed Declaration Form during the claims and objections phase.

During the Enumeration Phase of SIR, the CEO said, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) conduct house-to-house visits and provide Enumeration Forms to all existing electors. Electors may submit the duly filled forms either through the BLOs or online. To ensure maximum coverage, BLOs will visit each household, for distribution, collection, and verification of forms.

To facilitate enrollment of new voters, BLOs have been instructed to carry blank Form 6 and Declaration Forms during their visits and provide them to eligible citizens seeking registration as new electors.

The ECI has also enhanced the role of recognized political parties in the process by permitting Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to collect up to 50 forms per day from the public and submit them to BLOs before publication of the draft rolls. Political parties have been encouraged to appoint more BLAs to assist in the smooth conduct of the exercise.

In Arunachal Pradesh, the electoral revision exercise will cover 8,87,505 electors, with the support of 2,233 BLOs and 3,131 BLAs.

The CEO appealed to all eligible voters to actively participate in the revision process and cooperate with election officials during the house-to-house enumeration campaign to help ensure an accurate, updated and inclusive electoral roll.
