AAPYO seeks Rijiju, Govt’s intervention in NERIST Director’s resignation row

ITANAGAR, Jun 16: The All Arunachal Pradesh Youth Organization (AAPYO) on Tuesday urged the State Government and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju to intervene in the issue surrounding the resignation of North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) Director Prof Narendranath S, alleging that he was forced to step down from the post.

Addressing a press conference at the Arunachal Press Club here, AAPYO president Kipa Kanam said NERIST, a premier institution in the region, was facing a crisis due to what he termed as “dirty politics” that was tarnishing its hard-earned reputation.

The Organization demanded the termination of both suspended officials Mai Kuru Camdir and Doge Kamduk, who were suspended for allegedly being involved in irregularities and manipulation in the recruitment rules (RR), 2022, for non-teaching staff.

Kanam alleged that the promotion of Mai Kuru Camdir from the post of Joint Registrar to Registrar within a short period (48 days) was irregular and claimed that there was no sanctioned vacancy for the Registrar’s post. He further alleged that Doge Kamduk was promoted from Section Officer to Assistant Registrar through fraudulent means.

The AAPYO also questioned the circumstances leading to the resignation of NERIST Director Prof Narendranath S, noting that it came shortly after the suspension orders were issued against the two officials.

“Just a day after the suspension orders were issued, the Director was forced to tender his resignation. We believe the matter deserves a thorough investigation,” Kanam said.

The Organization demanded action against those allegedly involved in pressuring the Director to resign and called for a fair inquiry into the entire episode.

“We demand immediate arrest of those external students’ organization/individuals, including the two officers and other faculty involved in the matter of the forceful resignation of the NERIST Director,” he added.

AAPYO further alleged that there were irregularities in the implementation of various schemes and projects within the Institute. It claimed that deficiencies in planning and execution had adversely affected the supply of laboratory and scientific equipment, forcing students to rely on outdated facilities.

The youth body urged the authorities to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the functioning of the Institute and take appropriate measures to restore transparency and accountability.

AAPYO appealed to the public, community leaders and student organizations to refrain from playing “dirty politics” in educational institutions, and to work collectively for safeguarding the academic environment and reputation of NERIST.
