Itanagar, Jun 17: In a major breakthrough in its ongoing drive against drug trafficking, East Kameng Police seized 108 vials of suspected heroin and apprehended two persons during a naka checking operation conducted along National Highway-13 near the Pampoli/Thursday Market area.
Acting on specific and reliable information regarding the transportation of suspected narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances from Assam to Seppa, a police team from Seppa Police Station launched the operation and intercepted the suspected consignment.
During the search, police recovered 108 vials containing suspected heroin weighing approximately 125.8 grams, including the weight of the vials. The team also seized a used insulin syringe, small quantities of suspected cannabis and cannabis seeds, cash amounting to Rs 10,010, and other related articles.
According to police records, the seizure is the largest heroin haul made within the jurisdiction of East Kameng district to date.
The operation was carried out in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and was duly videographed through the e-Sakshya platform to ensure transparency and adherence to legal procedures.
Following the seizure, all recovered items were properly sealed, marked and deposited in the police malkhana after completion of the prescribed formalities.
A case has been registered at Seppa Police Station under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985.
Police said post-seizure legal procedures are being undertaken strictly in accordance with law, while further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended destination of the contraband.
East Kameng Police reiterated its commitment to combating the menace of drug trafficking and substance abuse and appealed to the public to cooperate by sharing credible information related to drug-related activities.
