ITANAGAR, Jun 17: The Department of Research, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh, on Tuesday formally launched its year-long Platinum Jubilee celebrations, marking 75 years of dedicated service and contributions to the intellectual, cultural and developmental landscape of Arunachal Pradesh.
Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament (MP)-elect Tai Tagak attended the inaugural programme as the chief guest.
The celebrations commenced with the inauguration of a special exhibition showcasing the department's historical journey, achievements and contributions over the past seven and a half decades. The chief guest also launched the Platinum Jubilee Logo Design Competition, formally setting the stage for the year-long commemorative events.
Delivering the keynote address, former Secretary of the Research Department and Padma Shri awardee YD Thongchi reflected on the department's pivotal role during the formative years of the State's administration and underscored the need to restore its prominence in contemporary governance and research.
Addressing the gathering, chief guest Tai Tagak emphasized the importance of strengthening research institutions in Arunachal Pradesh, particularly in the areas of documenting indigenous knowledge systems and preserving the state's rich cultural heritage for future generations.
The inaugural programme also featured a plenary session on the past, present and future of research in Arunachal Pradesh.
Research Assistant Director (Culture) Dr Radhe Yampi presented a paper highlighting the department's 75-year journey, achievements, challenges and future opportunities.
Prof Ashan Riddi spoke on historical research and archival development, while Prof Jumyir Basar highlighted the importance of research excellence, innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration and capacity building. Dr Tarh Ramya deliberated on the role of research in policy formulation and governance.
The event witnessed the participation of academicians, researchers, scholars, Govt officials, students and members of the public.
As part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, a series of academic, cultural and heritage-related programmes will be organized throughout the year. A major mid-term event proposed for October 2026 will include a national and international conference and conclave focusing on the promotion, preservation, documentation and protection of Arunachal Pradesh's indigenous knowledge systems, cultural heritage, research methodologies and emerging areas of research.
The year-long celebrations aim not only to honour the department's rich legacy but also to chart a visionary roadmap towards its centenary in 2051.
