Lower Subansiri launches 10-day ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ campaign

ZIRO, Jun 17: The Lower Subansiri district administration has launched a 10-day awareness campaign under the banner “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, Vikshit Bharat ki Pehchaan” to promote a drug-free society and create awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse among youth.

The campaign, which will continue till June 26, is being organized in observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking and seeks to mobilize government departments, educational institutions and the community in the fight against drug addiction.

The initiative was formally launched with a mass pledge programme and signature campaign held at the District Secretariat Office Complex in Ziro on Tuesday. Deputy Commissioner Oli Perme led the pledge-taking ceremony, which was attended by Heads of Departments and administrative officials.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC emphasized the need to safeguard young people from the menace of drugs, describing them as the backbone of society and the key to a healthy and progressive future.

As part of the campaign, residents, community leaders, student bodies and local organizations have been urged to join hands in spreading awareness and ensuring that the anti-drug message reaches every household in the district.

Deputy Director (ICDS) Kago Maya Gyati has prepared a district action plan comprising a series of awareness and outreach programmes to be conducted in schools, colleges and public institutions.

The campaign will feature mass pledge drives, signature campaigns, educational short-film screenings, essay-writing competitions, yoga sessions and interactive discussions on substance abuse.

The district administration expressed hope that the initiative would strengthen collective efforts towards building a healthier, safer and drug-free Lower Subansiri. (DIPRO)
